Wire Forming Production

A customer suffered repeated failures on bearings fitted to rotating equipment in a wire drawing machine, causing extended downtime and high maintenance costs. NSK's investigation identified the problem in the lubrication and sealing arrangement. A specially selected Lithium Complex grease and sealed double-row cylindrical roller bearing unit were trialled; bearing performance increased, efficiency improved and maintenance costs fell.

• Continuous wire drawing under high loads and harsh conditions — 10 machines
• High bearing failure rate: up to 75 roller changes per month
• Approx. service life of 1 month; premature failure due to lubrication issues
• The existing graphite-based grease was found to be unsuitable
• The trial succeeded with a 40% improvement in bearing life
• The customer converted all rollers to NSK's recommended bearing/grease combination
